What are UGC approved Journals?

The UGC had prepared the Approved List of Journals. This list known as UGC Approved Journals. Publications in the UGC listed journals was considered for the purpose of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) and Direct Recruitment of Teachers and other academic staff as required under the UGC (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges) Regulation, 2016.

The UGC approved List of Journals consisted of (1) Journals Indexed in WoS (Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index and Arts and Humanities Citation Index); (2) Journals Indexed in Scopus; (3) Journals Indexed in Indian Citation Index; (4) Journals Recommended by the Members of UGC Standing Committee and Language Committee(s); and (5) Journals Recommended by the Universities (after de-duplication). Recent changes to UGC approved Journals

The UGC had published an original list of accredited titles in January 2017, saying that only papers published in these journals would count against an academic’s performance in judging their suitability for career advancement.

According to the latest UGC regulations published on 18/07/18, minimum research publications in Peer-Reviewed journals or UGC listed journals are valid. For more details click on the below link.

According to the revised regulations, publications in peer-reviewed journals will also be considered for the appointment of academic faculty (Assistant / Associate / Professor / Vice Principal / Principal).

In June 2019, UGC Approved List of Journals has been replaced by UGC-CARE list w.e.f. 14.06.2019

UGC care list of journals is continuously updated. Care committee constantly observes the journals and curates the list. If any journal is found not following the UGC guidelines they immediately remove the journal from the list.
